It is the motto that has always haunted us at Ait, to make our customers life easier. In an increasingly complicated world, the search for simplicity has taken a backseat. So, when our old friend James called us telling us about the problems he was having, an idea came up.
James said that he had several problems in his production line. Due to the current market trend, he had begun to de-core lettuce, and realized that it was much more complicated than it seemed. To properly perform the de-coring process, James had to ensure that the quality of the product was top notch, in addition to the de-coring itself, that involved a staggering amount of workforce. Given this situation, James decided that he had to automate the line, and contacted us, knowing that we are world leaders in this field.
At that time, we thought of offering him one of our coring equipment adapted from our floretting equipment, present in production plants in several countries in America and Europe. This solution, although it has a very high processing capacity, unparalleled robustness and offers an excellent final product, makes use of cutting-edge size detection technology, which we call intelligent cutting.
The problem we saw is that a machine with these technological characteristics needs trained personnel both for its use and for its maintenance, in addition to a high investment cost. That’s when we asked ourselves a question, is that level of technology necessary to automate the de-coring process? The answer was clear. It isn’t necessary to pay for such cutting-edge technology when the same results can be achieved, if not better, with a simpler machine. Thus, was born the concept that would later become the “Deco-One”.
From here the re-engineering process began, that is, our goal was to improve something that we already had.
Starting from the base that we already had with the existing machine, we began the redesign process based on 3 key concepts:
As a result, the “Deco-One” machine was born, which, despite having a simpler technology, guarantees results of the same quality, practically the same productivity as the machine from which we started, and robustness and reliability that is a trademark of the house, achieving the total confidence in our machinery by the customer.
As soon as we published the completion of the first prototype, many companies were interested in our machine, although there was one that showed special interest. As a result of this approach, the management of Vitacress Portugal commissioned us the first Deco-One that was marketed. Thanks to this commitment to our machinery, the Vitacress director of operations declares the following:
They were the first to appreciate the potential of this new development and placed their trust in us. Thanks to this, they have been able to expand their production capacity using as little space and labour as possible, in addition to a fairly limited investment, considering the number of advantages that our machine gives them over their previous de-coring system.
