AIT always at the forefront

FOUNDATION AND HIGHLIGHTS

In 1997, visionaries Mario and Ricardo Comín established Ait in Tudela. Ait has stood out for its excellence in designing and manufacturing a variety of machines. Specifically, their broccoli and cauliflower floret cutting equipment has placed the company at the forefront globally in this field. These machines are capable of identifying the size and type of each product, allowing for customized cutting that reduces waste and efficiently processes large quantities. Given the ongoing improvement, techniques of trained artificial vision with machine learning and other AI tools are currently being employed.

In addition to specific products like the aforementioned, our greatest milestone lies in maintaining Our Commitment to innovation and quality throughout our trajectory.

The company Ait boasts a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled employees, predominantly from engineering backgrounds, and dedicates around 10% of its annual turnover consistently to its own R&D&I, self-financed (in addition to possible public assistance), making continuous improvement and technological advancement happen year after year.

CURRENT MISSION AND VISION OF THE COMPANY

Mission
Ait has a clear mission, defined in its latest strategic reflection as “We create innovative solutions by integrating technologies.” This approach materializes in four phases:

  • Identifying needs to solve with our R&D
  • Constant professional, technological, and personal growth
  • We help our clients achieve their business goals
  • We market our solutions globally

Vision

Ait’s vision is to be recognized as a benchmark for its innovative solutions, primarily in food processing.

SPECIALIZATION AND BUSINESS LINES

Ait has developed solutions for a variety of industries, from pharmaceuticals to the education sector, as well as the automotive sector. However, it currently focuses primarily on the food sector, specifically on capital goods (machinery) for vegetable processing.

CURRENT TRENDS IN AIT AND ITS DEVELOPMENT

Ait is at the forefront of the food industry by implementing emerging technologies such as:

  • Artificial vision: used to identify products, their states, sizes, tasks needed to prepare such products, identify their position, etc…
  • Machine learning: simplified through artificial intelligence, examples of what is right or wrong can be given, and without the need to explain or code in detail, the machine learns to discern between good and bad through a trial and error process.
  • Simplified robotics: often solutions at the industry are designed by generic researchers, who think big and in very large features, and in the end, not everyone is like that. So, we can either integrate good robots (I refer to three-axis robotic arms, for example), or break down a specific application or mission, define what functionalities we need, and design and manufacture simpler but sufficient equipment for its specific application or mission (which facilitates both economically and in terms of maintenance and use).

Additionally, although it sounds like a cliché, it is very important to have people who understand the technologies while maintaining a commitment to the mission of creating solutions. Because many times it is not so much about the technology itself but the synergies, how they interact with each other, and what solutions they offer to the end user (our client), and to society in the end. We cannot lose the humanistic vocation.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

We work with leading companies in different fields that incorporate complementary technology to our company, allowing us to reach our destinations faster and accompanied. Additionally, we also collaborate with various public entities and research centers: Public University of Navarra (UPNA, [1] àfor its acronym in Spanish), the Integrated Polytechnic Center “ETI [1],” the National Center for Food Technology (CNTA, [1]), in addition to membership and active participation in other organizations such as the Ribera Business Association (AER [1]), Navarra Association of Labor Companies (ANEL [1]), EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering Design Group), the Chamber of Commerce, etc.

IMPACT AND RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Over the years, Ait has experienced steady growth, expanding its international presence and achieving significant milestones. In 2023, they managed to sell a technological solution in Germany, which is an important qualitative achievement both personally and at the company level.

OUTLOOK FOR 2024

In 2024, Ait focuses on applying the technologies described above to other vegetable products, such as vegetables and fruits, to prepare them by making cuts and removing parts that are not desirable for consumption and require handling beyond conventional sorters.

We are also working with current Ait clients and specialist partners in agricultural machinery for the development of a new harvester that will solve some problems for our clients. Their goal is to continue leading the industry with innovative and quality solutions.
